At Jersey Soap
we produce handmade soap
from two main bases, and further information on these is available below.
Both of our soap bases are biodegradable and have been selected by us for their quality, eco-friendliness and because they are made from primarily
natural ingredients.
If you want to know more, why not give us a call
and arrange to come and see our soap machine running at
The Harbour Gallery?
We produce our extruded soaps from a high quality (milling) soap base, which we originally purchase in the form of pellets. These pellets
are combined in a bowl with Glycerin and Titanium Dioxide and then dyes and oils are added to give the desired colour and fragrance. This mixture is
blended and then poured into our Soap Extruder.
This machine pushes the mixture through a perforated steel plate, producing what appears to be a cross between spaghetti and play-dough. After this
process has been repeated three times, the soap is suitably refined (this is visibly noticeable and can also be detected in the texture of
the finished soaps).
At this point, the front plate in the machine is exchanged for a finishing plate, which gives shape to the mass output by the last pass through the
machine. We use a number of different plates with different shapes cut in them, allowing us to produce large and small bars,
Jersey Cows and all sorts of other shapes!
The product output from the machine at this point is a single, long bar in the given shape (for example, a very stretched-looking cow!). This is then cut to size,
and the individual bars or soaps are manually pressed in a stamping machine - this firms the soap up, finishes any edges which need pressing
into place (for example
the rounded corners on our large bars), and also allows us to imprint wording or designs into the end product.
This intensive milling process allows us to create soaps which produce a rich, creamy lather that when used, leaves skin feeling clean and well moisturised.
We also product an entire range aimed at people with skin complaints (as well as little ones!), called
"Au Natrel" - no perfumes or dyes are added
to this natural soap
during production, so it is a fresh white colour, and contains only natural ingredients.
Extruded soap contains the following ingredients: Sodium Palmate, Sodium Cocoate, Aqua, Sodium Chloride, Glycerin,Tetrasodium EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate.
Our "Melt & Pour" soaps are made from a Glycerin Soap Base, which is produced from pure vegetable oil. Therefore, unlike
some soap products, they contain no alcohols or other harmful ingredients which could dry out your skin!
Glycerin is a natural emollient which draws moisture out of the air, meaning that it produces a soap which cleans without stripping or upsetting
the delicate natural pH balance required for soft, healthy skin. These soaps are also free from animal oils, meaning that they rinse off easily and
don't leave an unpleasant soapy film behind.
The base material which we use is of the highest quality, produced from double distilled, deodorised (clear) coconut oil.
Melt & Pour soap contains the following ingredients: Purified Water , Glycerin, Sodium Stearate, Sorbitol, Propylene Glycol,
Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES), Sodium Laureth, Stearic Acid, Lauric Acid, Sodium Chloride.
